You can make this call for him.
Most first conversations are with a parent or sibling. Here’s what to know before you pick up the phone — and what happens after.

What the house does — and doesn’t do
DB House is structured sober living: a substance-free home with a live-in manager, curfew, chores, required recovery meetings, and random screening. It is not a treatment center. If your loved one needs detox or clinical care first, we’ll say so on the first call and point you to it.
Where sober living fits is the long middle of recovery: after treatment, before full independence — the months when going straight home to old rooms and old routines undoes the progress.
What helps, honestly
- Let the structure be the bad guy. The house enforces curfew and meetings so you don’t have to. Your job goes back to being family.
- Pay directly if you’re paying. Families who help with rent pay the house, not the resident. Cleaner for everyone.
- Show up on visiting days. Predictable, boring, reliable contact beats dramatic gestures every time.
- Expect a wobble. Early recovery has hard weeks. A hard week in a structured house is a very different thing from a hard week alone.
The first call
Ten minutes. We’ll ask where he is now, what his recovery looks like so far, any medications, and timing. You’ll get straight answers on cost, availability, and fit — and if we’re not the right house, we’ll tell you who might be.
